Average gas prices up, cheese and wheat down

Gas prices went up slightly for the first time in about a month, while cheese dropped below a dollar.

Gas prices went up slightly for the first time in about a month, while cheese dropped below a dollar.

Here's the weekly rundown:

Cheese

Cheese block prices were down once again on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, coming in at $0.45 less last week at an average of $1.02. The previous week's average was $1.47.

Prices were $0.98 Monday, $0.99 Tuesday, $1.03 Wednesday, $1.06 Thursday and $1.07 Friday.

Wheat

The week's average for wheat prices was $5.60 on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, down $0.20 from $5.80 the previous week.

Wheat closed at $5.69 Monday, $5.65 Tuesday, $5.55 Wednesday, $5.59 Thursday and $5.56 Friday.

Gasoline and diesel fuel

Monday's nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.05, up for the first time in a month and from $2.03 the previous week, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

Mid-range unleaded stayed the same at $2.27, while Monday's premium unleaded price was $2.45, also up from last week at $0.02 higher.

The nationwide average for diesel fuel was $2.79, a drop from $2.80 last week. Diesel prices are also down from $3.12 a month ago and $3.90 a year ago.

Natural Gas

Natural gas spot prices fell over the report week at most trading locations outside of the Northeast, where price movements were mixed. The Henry Hub spot price fell from $2.94/MMBtu January 21 to $2.89/MMBtu January 28.

At the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex), the price of the February 2015 futures contract fell 10.8¢ over the report week and expired at $2.866/MMBtu.

Pizza company stocks

Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. dropped to $72.28 Friday, down from $74.11 the previous week and $72.43.

Domino's finished last week at $99.05, up from $98.10 the previous week. Domino's traded as high as $103.92 the past year.

Papa John's finished at $63.46 Friday, a notable rise from $61.98 the previous two weeks.

Rave Restaurant Group, formerly Pizza Inn, turned in at $10.83 Friday, a notable rise from $13.10 the previous Friday.

Papa Murphy's finished the week at $13.29, up from $13 the previous week. Its 52-week high is $13.70
