Gas prices continue to creep up

Commodities report -- Week of April 5: Cheese is up, wheat is down and stocks are still rebounding.

Cheese   Block cheese prices trended up last week on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, averaging just over $1.38 per pound. Prices rose 9 cents from the previous week.   Prices closed at $1.34 on Monday, $1.35 on Tuesday, $1.40 Wednesday, and $1.43 Thursday.   Wheat  Wheat closed at $4.89 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 8 cents from the previous week's close of $4.97.   Prices for wheat closed at just over $4.96 Monday, $5 Tuesday, and $4.82 per bushel Wednesday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel  The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.83 per gallon April 5, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, up 3 cents from the previous week.   Prices are up 4 percent from an average of $2.73 per gallon a month ago and up 39 percent from an average of $2.04 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded currently averages $3 per gallon while premium unleaded as of April 5 stood at $3.11 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.99 per gallon April 5, up 5 cents from last week. Diesel prices are up 24 percent from an average of $2.27 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas   Natural gas spot prices fell almost across the board, as mild weather moved into most areas in the lower 48 States, according to the Energy Information Administration. The Henry Hub price fell by 9 cents, from $4.02 per million Btu (MMBtu) on Wednesday, March 24, to $3.93 per MMBtu March 31.
 
Pizza company stocks   Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $39.20 on April 1, up 93 cents compared with the previous week's close of $38.27. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $39.24 in April 2010 and a 52-week low of $28.54 in April 2009.   Domino's closed at $13.78, down 1 cent compared with the previous Friday's close of $13.79. DPZ has traded as high as $14.26 in March 2010 and as low as $6.41 in April 2009, over the past 52 weeks.   Papa John's stock closed at $25.81, up 79 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $25.02. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $29.25 in May 2009 and a 52-week low of $21.44 in December 2009.   Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $38.37, up 19 cents compared with the previous week's close of $38.18. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $38.56 in April 2010 and a 52-week low of $24.69 in October 2009.   California Pizza Kitchen closed at $16.74 on April 1, down 14 cents from the previous week's close of $16.88. CPKI traded as high as $18.32 in March 2010 and as low as $12.29 in December 2009.   Pizza Inn closed at $2.14 on April 1, up 4 cents from the previous week's close of $2.10. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.25 in June 2009 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
