Ads for Hell Pizza draw fire

August 25, 2009

A marketing campaign by the New Zealand-based Hell Pizza has landed the chain in hot water, according to a story on the news Web site stuff.co.nz. The chain has a long history of controversial campaigns, including a "Kids are Evil" campaign and billboards featuring Hitler.

The current campaign plays on a recent incident in New Zealand where a Tongan man was caught barbecuing his pet dog. The chain's ad for its gluten-free brownies uses the tag line "At least our brownies won't eat your pet dog."

Tongans are natives of an island chain in the South Pacific.
