Bacon alternative, gluten-free deep dish among innovations winners

The National Restaurant Association has announced the recipients of the annual Food and Beverage Innovations Awards. According to a news release, the FABI awards recognize "progressive food and beverage innovations that will make a significant impact in the restaurant industry."

Winners were chosen by an independent panel of experts representing both commercial and non-commercial industry segments. The recipients will be showcased at the NRA Show, May 17-20, at Chicago's McCormick Place.

The 2014 FABI Awards recipients are:

Atalanta Corporation: Skura Nera: Pizza Flour

This flour blend provides smoky flavor profiles to artisanal-style products and can be used to create unique pizza, pasta or bread.

Atalanta Corporation: Sweety Drop Peppers

Discovered growing in the Amazon Rainforest, this new pepper has a colorful appearance and sweet flavor.
