LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The price of block cheddar picked up where it left off before the Martin Luther King holiday — climbing upward.
Prices rose more than 6 cents to settle at $1.695 per pound in Jan. 19 trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. None of the 13 bids for blocks were filled, signaling potentially strong demand that could push prices upward in the coming days.
One year ago, blocks traded at $1.30; a week ago they sold for $1.55.
