Boston's US gets set to grow with 'simplified' menu, more flexible store design

April 17, 2019

Boston's Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar is improving its franchise model through restaurant redesign and menu offerings. The move is part of the brand's efforts to improve its overall growth capabilities and ROI for franchise partners, according to a press release.

The store redesign initiative focuses on footprint flexibility to help franchise owners costs and develop urban locations through smaller stores. The redesigned option also allots for the use of better technology and outdoor seating through the inclusion of patios with fire pits.

The company said the stores in its home state of Texas have already been renovated and seen "significant increases in revenue, peaking at 22% growth." The upgrades will continue with refreshed stores in the Northwest, Midwest, and Southeast by 2020.

The chain's simplified new menu revolves around Boston's made-from-scratch dough, with a focus on lower operator food costs through a bigger focus on dough-based products.

"The numbers behind our redesigned restaurants, menu and franchise development plans put Boston's in a position for growth through franchising in order to be America's best sports restaurant," President Jeff Melnick said in the release. "We look forward to and are committed to seeking out the right franchise partners with a passion for the brand, its values and for making an impact on the community to help us do so."

The brand's leadership hopes to grow the chain's U.S.. footprint by 30 percent during each of the next three years. Six locations are planned in 2019, including five in new markets. Nine more restaurants are planned for 2020, with an additional 12 units in 2021. The chain now has 22 U.S. locations. Its sister brand, Boston Pizza, has more than 400 Canadian locations.
