California Pizza Kitchen launches contest for best kid's pizza

September 8, 2004

LOS ANGELES — California Pizza Kitchen is teaming up with select U.S. children's hospitals to find the most creative kid pizzaiolos.

According to a news release, the winner of the CPKids Most Creative Pizza Contest will have his or her pizza featured on CPK's menu for up to one year with proceeds up to $100,000 from the sale of the winning pizza benefiting select children's hospitals.

The contest's judging panel includes celebrities such as Steve Schirripa from "The Sopranos," Joe Farrell of "Trading Spaces: Family," Emily Smith from FamilyFun online and CPK co-founders and co-CEOs Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax.

Entries will be judged on taste, aesthetic appeal, creativity of ingredients, recipe name and clarity of the recipe's writing.

"Pizza is the perfect vehicle for getting kids to try new foods," said Flax. "We're hoping to get kids to expand their horizons and be as creative as possible, while at the same time support the wonderful work of our nation's children's hospitals."

Judges will look for entries demonstrating adventurous flavor combinations. Whether it's a peanut butter and jelly or macaroni and cheese pizza, nothing should be considered too unusual.

Children ages 6 to 13 are eligible to enter, and can do so online at www.cpk.com, and by clicking on the CPKids Most Creative Pizza Contest icon.

Five finalists will be chosen, and the grand prize winner will receive a $500 gift card good for one year at any California Pizza Kitchen. The remaining finalists will each receive $250 gift certificates.
