Canadian QSR and pizza chain, Pizza Pizza is bringing what it said is the first plant-based pizza to market starting today thanks to a partnership with the owner of Field Roast Grain Meat Co, Greenleaf Foods, SPC.
The new 'Super Plant Pizza features Field Roast's Mexican Chipotle Sausage as a crumble made of grains, smoked Chipotle peppers, sweet onions, fresh-chopped garlic, apple cider vinegar, cumin seed, oregano and Chili de Arbol. Likewise, the pizza features Italian tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and is topped with plant-based pepperoni.
For vegan customers, who eat no animal-derived products, the pizza can be order with dairy-free vegan "cheeze," while the pie is available on any crust, including the chain's cauliflower crust.
"When dining out, plant-based options can seem less exciting, but we're quickly changing that experience," Greenleaf Foods, SPC President Dan Curtin, said in the release. "Now Pizza Pizza consumers don't have to sacrifice taste because we're bringing innovative and delicious plant-based options to the menu. We are always looking for ways to introduce more people to plant-based eating. Teaming up with Pizza Pizza will allow us to deliver our high-quality, artisanal products in new ways."
The 50-year-old Pizza Pizza chain has more than 750 locations across Canada, operating two banners — Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73.
