C-store chain, Casey's General Store, is testing a pizza-only concept in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. According to the Des Moines Register, the concept, Casey's Pizza Express, will open Aug. 1 in a shopping center. It will sell pizza, both whole and by the slice, as well as breadsticks, chicken wings and fountain drinks. It will also include a self-serve frozen yogurt bar.
There is also a traditional Casey's in operation in Pleasant Hill, and a second currently being built. The existing store sells as many as 100 pizzas a night.
Bill Walljasper, senior vice president and CFO of the company, told the publication that Casey's General Stores sold about 12 million whole pizzas last year, and about 48 million pizza slices. The chain added pizza delivery in the spring of 2012 and has been expanding the service since.
More than 225 of Casey's 1,749 stores now offer delivery.
