Cheese prices ease slightly
July 25, 2007
CHICAGO — Pizzeria owners are getting some small relief from the skyrocketing cheese prices that have put a damper on profits.
The price of block cheese on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange settled at $1.85 per pound on Wednesday, off 12 percent from the June 25 high of $2.10.
Cheese prices still stand about 60 percent higher than this time last year; in the first few weeks of July 2006, block cheese prices hovered around $1.16.
