Cheese to hover in $1.35 range for 2006

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Echoing the predictions of multiple dairy analysts, the USDA expects block cheese prices will drop favorably — for pizza operators, anyway — in 2006.

According to Jerry Dryer's Dairy & Food Market Analyst newsletter, cheese prices will modulate a few cents as 2005 ends. But due to strong milk supplies and sizeable dairy herds, the USDA predicted the following quarterly cheese price averages for 2006: first quarter, $1.36; second quarter, $1.31; third quarter, $1.33; and fourth quarter, $1.37.
