Chuck E. Cheese's Facebook page gets satirical

March 3, 2014

Chuck E. Cheese's "Special Merchandise & Tickets Team" has posted a "news release" on the brand's Facebook page, claiming that a young man has confessed to a decade-old crime at the company.

The satirical post says that Tyler Ruff confessed to the 2004 squishy ball theft, which forced the S.M.A.T. team to reveal its existence.

"Yes, it's true," said Michelle Chism, director, corporate communications for Chuck E. Cheese's, said in a news release. "Social media has finally forced our hand, and today, I can confirm the existence of S.M.A.T. team members in all of our domestic stores."

The satirical campaign has been received mostly positively, with fans responding:

  • "How can you not love Chuck E. Cheese. Funny!!!" and
  • "I think it's hilarious. Never read satire from CEC before. Made me chuckle. Kudos!"
