CHICAGO — The price of block cheese on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange rebounded slightly last week, averaging $1.74 per pound for the week ended Feb. 1, up 5 percent from an average of $1.65 per pound the previous week.
 
Prices started the week at $1.74, dropping to $1.71 on Wednesday before closing at $1.80 per pound on Friday.
Cheese prices are up about 31 percent compared with the same week last year, when they averaged $1.33 per pound.   Wheat  Wheat futures for March delivery closed at $9.43 per bushel on Friday on the Chicago Board of Trade, up 10 cents compared with the previous Friday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel  The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.98 per gallon Feb. 4, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, unchanged from this time last week. Prices were down 4 percent from an average of $3.10 a month ago and up 37 percent from an average of $2.18 this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $3.16, while premium unleaded stood at $3.28 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $3.37 per gallon Feb. 4, also unchanged from last week. Diesel prices are up 33 percent from an average of $2.54 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas
 
With the exception of the Northeast, natural gas spot prices rose for the period from Jan. 24 to Jan. 30, according to the Energy Information Administration. The average spot price for natural gas rose 4 percent to $8.17 from $7.84 the previous week. Spot prices in the Northeast averaged price $9.24 per MMBtu Jan. 30, $2.34 lower than the previous Wednesday.
