Datassential released its appetizers report, which includes a list of the top five "most loved" appetizers, including: wings, French fries, shrimp cocktail, and fried cheese sticks.

Chicken strips, jalapeno poppers and calamari are placed on menus more frequently than garlic bread, the report shows.

The new MenuTrends Keynote on Appetizers details what consumers order, what they are interested in trying and how that compares to the appetizers operators are placing on menus, according to the announcement. Datassentials surveyed 1,000 consumers for their thoughts on appetizer options, flavors, trends and ingredients to discover preferences and motivations with implications for foodservice and retail segments. The research firm combined this data with operator data on menuing, purchase formats and brand importance. The company leveraged its trend-tracking menu database MenuTrends for the report.
