Delivery halted in two England neighborhoods

August 12, 2002

BASILDON, England -- A pizza delivery company is refusing delivery to two areas it deems dangerous.

According to The Evening Echo, the local Pizza Hutin Basildon will not take pizzas to residents of Craylands because the people there are "intent on endangering their safety."

The company will not say what events influenced its decision, but did say it wasn't born of postcode prejudice, a practice often called "redlining" in the U.S.

The move follows a recent delivery stoppage in Southend, when the company banned its staff from delivering to the Woodgrange Drive estate.

"The welfare of our staff is a top priority, and following actions from a small number of people intent on endangering their safety we took the decision not to deliver to this area," a Pizza Hut spokesman said.
