A Domino's franchisee, who started as a delivery driver with the chain, will open the company's 16,000th store today in Cheektowaga, New York, on Union Road, a news release said. Allan Erwin began with the brand in 1993, but now owns stores across several states with Domino's, the world's largest pizza company, based on sales data.
"We've grown our total global store count by nearly 4,800 stores in the past five years, and we couldn't be more thrilled to commemorate our 16,000th store in the world, right here in New York," Domino's President and CEO Ritch Allison said in the release.
Allison and Domino's COO and President of the Americas Russell Weiner will join with Erwin and other executives for a morning ribbon-cutting ceremony, which includes a $16,000 donation to the Western New York Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Erwin bought his first Domino's store five years after he took his job as a delivery driver there and now owns 37 stores throughout New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. The release said that an eye-opening 90 percent of the chain's U.S. franchise owners began their careers as delivery drivers or pizza makers in Domino's stores.
