Domino's found liable for nearly $9M in franchisee's driver's crash

August 6, 2019

A California jury found Domino's Pizza liable for a car crash involving one of the brand's franchisee's delivery drivers in early 2011, along with damages of nearly $9 million, according to Law.com

A 61-year-old man was paralyzed and died a year later after his estate said the pizza delivery driver veered into the man's path, sending his car into a tree on Jan. 13, 2011, the site said. Richard Wiederhold died in 2012.

Domino's attorneys attempted unsuccessfully to separate the franchisee and company from one another in liability in the case, but the jury found that the franchisee and driver were agents of Domino's and awarded the dead man's estate $8.98 million, according to the site.
