Domino's launches pasta line

April 20, 2009

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Domino's Pizza has rolled out pasta nationwide.

The company had been testing the pastas in Southern California and other markets for several months. Unlike the family-sized offerings from rival Pizza Hut, though, Domino's pasta comes in individual servings.

Domino's Bread Bowl Pasta is served in bread bowls, stating at $5.99, or without the bowl starting at $4.99. Varieties include chicken alfredo, three cheese mac-n-cheese, chicken carbonara, Italian sausage marinara or pasta primavera. Customers can also choose a create-your-own option.

The company's online ordering site currently features a coupon offering $1 off each Bread Bowl Pasta when ordering online.

Domino's has been quiet about its plans for pasta, but Pizza Hut officials said last year that its pasta line was part of a strategy to move from simply selling pizza to offering a "home meal replacement."

Domino's seems to be making a similar move, albeit at a lower price point. Last fall, the company rolled out its Oven Baked Sandwiches line.

Domino's announced its nationwide pasta rollout via the company's Web site and its Twitter account.
