Domino’s named the Official Pizza of the NCAA

March 8, 2011

As March Madness sinks in and brackets fill up, Domino’s Pizza has taken its spot as the “Official Pizza of the NCAA” and several of its 23 national championships.

The Ann Arbor, Mich.-based chain has partnered with NCAA Corporate Champion Coca-Cola, the Official Fan Refreshment of the NCAA, Turner Sports and CBS Sports in a multi-year partnership.

This marks the first time Domino’s has partnered nationally with collegiate athletics, and the first national sports marketing sponsorship for the company since 2007.

“We are very proud to be the ‘Official Pizza of the NCAA,’ and look forward to a terrific opportunity to connect our brand with national and local platforms showcasing our country’s finest student athletes,” said Russell Weiner, Domino’s Pizza chief marketing officer.

Through the partnership, Domino’s will have rights to the NCAA March Madness, the Men’s Final Four, Women’s Final Four, Men’s Frozen Four, the Men’s College World Series and Women’s College World Series.

“With this announcement as the ‘Official Pizza of the NCAA,’ we welcome Domino’s Pizza to our NCAA championships, and we are excited to see the energy with this new relationship,” said Peter Davis, NCAA director of corporate alliances.

Domino’s Pizza opens first Polish unit

Far from the madness, Domino’s Pizza has opened its doors in Warsaw, Poland, its first in the country. The new unit is located in the Mokotow district, a vibrant business and residential area.

DP Polska SA is the master franchisee for Poland and is wholly owned by DP Poland plc, a publicly traded entity on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange.

The company's management has extensive experience in consumer brands, retailing, marketing and finance.

"We have now taken our first step in realizing our vision to transform the pizza delivery market in Poland, Europe's sixth largest economy,” said Peter Shaw, chief executive of DP Poland. “I would like to pay tribute to the incredible energy and professionalism of our team that has made this first store open on time and on budget."

Domino's Pizza now operates in 70 markets worldwide, with nearly half of its global retail sales coming from international stores, generating roughly a third of its operating income.
