Nearly 36 years after opening its first store outside the U.S. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Domino's Pizza is opening its 500th Canadian store. The recognized world leader in pizza delivery has stores in every Canadian province and two of three territories, according to a news release.
"What a great day! I am so proud of the many people who worked hard to reach this milestone for Domino's Pizza in Canada," Domino's Pizza of Canada CEO Mike Schlater, said in the release. "Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined celebrating the opening of our 500th store back in 1983 when I opened the first store in Winnipeg."
The store, which opens Wednesday at 3214 Douglas St., in Victoria, British Columbia, is owned by franchisees, Dale Lamoureux along with Shelley and Wil Chiasson. It is their first store as a group, though the Chiassons opened their first store in 2009, and Lamoreux, who started in delivery with the chain in 1985, opened his first store in 1993. The release said that more than 90% of Domino's franchise owners began their careers as delivery drivers or pizza makers for the chain.
