Domino's Pizza is taking special note of the opening of its 17,000th store today, with a celebration at the location in Bradbury, New South Wales, Australia, a news release said. This comes about 37 years after the mammoth pizza brand opened its first international location in Winnipeg, in Manitoba, Canada in 1983.
The Bradbury store, located at Shop 3a/100 The Parkway, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:45 a.m. (AEDT), and will give out free pizza from noon to 1 p.m. local time, as well as a total of $17,000 in Australian dollars, or just over $11,000 USD. The 17,000 AUD will come in the form of "golden slices" worth $1,000 AUD in cash hidden in 17 of the free carryout pizza boxes given out at midday, the brand said.
"I'm incredibly proud to announce the opening of our 17,000th store in the world," said Domino's CEO Ritch Allison, in the release. "This achievement is a true testament to how hard Domino's has worked and truly is a reflection of the success of our global brand."
Domino's has had a remarkably profitable last two weeks in trading on the New York Stock Exchange. And the brand last year had global retail sales of more than $14.3 billion, with over $7 billion in the U.S. and nearly $7.3 billion internationally. Domino's operates in more than 90 markets around the world.
