TORONTO — Domino's Pizza Team Canada is launching its own tsunami fundraising relief program called Domino's Valentine for South Asia.
According to a news release, on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14), participating Canadian Domino's stores will donate CAN $2 from every order placed on that day to tsunami relief efforts. Additionally, the stores will encourage customers to double Domino's contribution by donating another $2 to the cause.
Monies raised will go to CARE Canada and to the family of Domino's team member Anthony Richard. The Surrey, British Columbia, driver lost 72 members of his family in Sri Lanka to the tsunami.
"The tragic loss of life in South Asia really hit home for us, and the recovery will take years," said Derek Campbell, president of the Canadian Domino's Franchisee Association. "Anthony Richard's family and the other victims of the tsunami need our help in rebuilding their lives. We hope this program is successful in encouraging others to join us in assisting CARE Canada and the Richard family."
To help spread the word about their fundraising campaign, participating Domino's stores plan to top each pizza box with a brief letter explaining the fundraiser. To kick off the program, Canadian franchisees Mike Schlater and Dale Hoose have agreed to match up to the first $20,000 for all funds received during the campaign.
