Domino's throws Super Bowl party for U.S. troops in Middle East

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Domino's Pizza will feed 6,000 slices to more than 1,500 U.S. soldiers serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for a Super Bowl party this Sunday.

According to a release, due to the time difference, the soldiers' party will be held in the wee hours of Monday Jan. 27.

"Super Bowl Sunday has become an American holiday and we want to ensure that our troops serving overseas are able to enjoy the game with a taste from home," said Dave Brandon, Domino's chairman and CEO. "We sincerely thank these men and women for all they are doing for our country."

** In a separate Domino's release, the company said it anticipates selling more than 1.2 million pizzas in the U.S. on Super Bowl Sunday -- 42 percent more than on an average Sunday.

According to the release, some interesting pizza sales trends develop over the course of the game. For example, as the evening wears on, sales in the city of the winning team tend to rise; the opposite happens in the city of the losing team.

If the game is competitive -- and this year it figures to be a dogfight -- sales increase because the chain believes more viewers stay glued to the tube for the whole game.

If an NFC team wins, sales increase in the cities of other major NFC teams; the opposite happens if an AFC team wins.
