Economist predicts block cheese prices will slip to low $1.20s

December 16, 2003

LYNDEN, Wash.—Block cheese prices are likely to drop to the low $1.20s, according to dairy economist Bill Brooks, of the Downes-O'Neill Dairy Team in Chicago.

According to Dairyline.com, Brooks said if market demand doesn't rise, even lower prices are possible.

Brooks said he expects to see at least one month in the $1.20-or-so range, but that prices probably won't stay down for long. The growing economy and stability of milk production should help the cheese market "turn around relatively quickly. And prices should approach levels seen earlier this year," he said.
