Finnish pizza chain Kotipizza has reported a 16.3-percent increase in cumulative chain sales for the fiscal year that ended Jan. 31, 2017, for a total of 89.9 million euros ($96.41 million).
In fact, the chain's same-store sales grew 12.9 percent in January alone, compared to the same period last year, according to a news release. This year the monthly sales amounted to 7.61 million euros ($8.16 million). During the same period last year the chain reported sales of 6.73 million euros ($7.22 million).
The chain has 257 restaurant locations but just last week acquired the business operations of Pizzataxi restaurant chain, based in Helsinki, which has 22 sites and operates in Helsinki and southern Finland. Kotipizza plans to merge with the 22-site chain, which posted sales last year of 6 million euros ($6.43 million), according to a news release.
"The acquisition is above all an investment in entrepreneurship and home deliveries in the Kotipizza chain," Kotipizza CEO Tommi Tervanen said in a news release. "We believe that deliveries are increasingly important for fast casual chains in addition to fresh and responsibly produced food, high-quality customer experience, and digital services. At the same time, the acquisition strengthens the Kotipizza chain and its franchisees particularly in the Helsinki region."
Tervanen will speak about his growth strategy at the annual Restaurant Franchising Innovation Summit, July 18-20 in London. Register here.
