Goodfella's Pizza chef to compete in Pizza Festiva

March 1, 2006

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Andrew Scudera, executive chef at Goodfella's Brick Oven Pizza in Staten Island, N.Y., and his creation, the Smokin' Goodfella, will compete for the coveted Pizza of the Year award at this month's Pizza Festiva, part of the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas, March 14-16.

According to a news release, Scudera is one of four pizza makers from across the nation to advance to the finals of the competition. The other finalists are Jodi Aufdencamp of Mama Mimi's Take 'n Bake Pizza in Columbus, Ohio; Sarah Frazier of Pizza Junction in Greenwood Village, Colo; and Martin Madden of Keystone Flatbread Co. in Monroeville, Penn.

The Smokin' Goodfella features yellow, green and red peppers, sausage medallions, roasted pepper creme sauce and a blend of smoked "fresh" mozzarella and grated Romano cheeses.

"It's unique and has a great combination of flavors and aroma," Scudera said. "It's just a great-tasting pizza. We wanted to do something that represented Goodfella's and New York City. Since we use a wood-fired oven, we decided to go with the smoked mozzarella and peppers roasted inside the brick oven, and that worked out real well."

Goodfella's has won Pizza Festiva's top prize twice with its signature pies Pizza a la Vodka and The Sally Pie!
