Gourmet Pizza Plus owner jailed for sales tax evasion

Nashville Business Journal: Glen Irven McCarthy, president of Gourmet Pizza Plus Inc. in Hendersonville, Tenn., was arrested on Feb. 15 and charged with sales tax evasion.

McCarthy, 47, turned himself in to face charges in a 22-count, sealed indictment from a Sumner County grand jury. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Tennessee Department of Revenue.

McCarthy is charged with evading sales taxes on Gourmet Pizza from Jan. 1, 2002, through Sept. 30, 2003. Investigators claim McCarthy's actions resulted in Gourmet failing to report $546,202 in taxable sales and failing to pay $49,139 in sales taxes collected. He also is charged with theft.
