Research and Markets has released Canadean Ltd's new report "Chinese Foodservice: The Future of Foodservice in China to 2019," which provides an overview and market and channel insights into the operating environment for foodservice companies, according to the company. It is designed to be a tool for companies active across the Chinese foodservice value chain, and for new companies considering entering the market.

Key Findings included that:

  • Growing disposable income levels and urbanization have led to the changing eating habits of Chinese consumers who are developing an interest in health and wellness, and look for high quality food products when dining out.
  • China is considered to be predominantly a tea country with low coffee consumption. However, the coffee culture is rapidly growing, particularly among younger Chinese consumers, driven by affluence and convenience.
  • A large volume of international visitors traveling to China are driving demand for western style restaurants. International events such as the Shanghai World Expo Memorial Exhibition (2010) and BIO Convention in Beijing (2013) have also pushed the demand for western-style food such as dairy products (ice-cream, pizza, and flavored milk).
  • Many international fast food/quick service restaurants are including local flavors in their international menus to cater to Chinese
  • And foodservice operators are collaborating with online food delivery portals such as Ele.me (focuses on students) and waimaichaoren.com (focuses on white collar office workers), which provide food ordering and home delivery services.
