Jersey Mike's, Villa Italian Kitchen, Southwest team up to 'WOW' travelers

Jersey Mike's, Villa Italian Kitchen and Southwest Airlines partnered Wednesday to help feed Orlando-to-Denver flight passengers. Jersey Mike's and Villa, which have airport locations, supplied more than 160 passengers on the cross-country trip with a "sub and a slice," a news release said.

Southwest pulled the operation together as part of the airline's so-called WOW Wednesday promotion that gives passengers a "lovely parting gift" as they say in game show television. In this case, each flyer found inside their goody bag a slice of Neapolitan from Villa and a turkey-and-provolone sub from Jersey Mike's.

"As soon as they were seated, passengers dove into their brown bags and pulled out a sub and slice of pizza," Jersey Mike's Vice President of Non-traditioal Development Phil Capozzi, said in the release.  "It was terrific to work with our partner Villa Italian Kitchen to make it a sub above day for all the passengers traveling on Southwest's flight to Denver."

The brands did not disclose whether this was a single-occasion event involving the restaurant brands or if it might continue. However, as Pizza Marketplace readers recently learned, Jersey Mike's has increasingly been making friends in the pizza world, where brand leadership has found great success adopting pizza-brand franchisees to ownership of its brand.
