Kotipizza, Social Burgerjoint have great May, but not Chalupa

Kotipizza reports that its total sales grew a hefty 12.9 percent in May 2018 compared to the same month last year. Same-store sales, based on sales figures from 247 restaurants, rose by 7.5 percent, a news release said. 

With May included, the chain's sales have not risen for 38 straight months as sales totaled sales 9.1 million euros or $10.7 million, compared with 8.1 million euros or $9.5 million last year. 

The chain's brick-and-mortar restaurants increased their sales by 13.4 percent and shop-in-shop locations by 9.9 percent. Online store sales grew by 25.6 percent to 824,000 euros or $974,668. Figures for online sales are mainly based on the sales reported by 77 restaurants offering home delivery and count towards the sales of brick-and-mortar restaurants.

Since the beginning of the financial year on Feb. 1, to the last record for this report on May 31, cumulative chain sales have increased by 15.8 percent compared to last year, amounting to 37.4 million euros or $44.2 million.

Total sales of restaurants in the Chalupa chain — part of Kotipizza Group Oyj — grew by23.2 percent in May 2018 compared to the year before. In May 2018, the sales amounted to 199,000 euros or $235,376. Same-store sales, based on sales figures from eight restaurants, decreased by 24.1 percent.

Sales in the Social Burgerjoint restaurant — also part of Kotipizza Group Oyj — grew by 34.8 percent in May 2018 compared to the year before. In May 2018, the sales amounted to 104,000 euros or $122,994, the best monthly sales in the restaurant's history. Monthly sales exceeded 100,000 euros or $118,263 for the first time. 

Kotipizza, the Finnish pizza chain founded in 1987, had a total of 258 locations at the end of 2017. Chalupa launched three years ago, while Social Burger Joint, acquired in November 2017, operates the Social Burgerjoint restaurant chain and the Social Food food truck.
