McDonald’s, Yum!, Starbucks on 2011 Fortune 500 list

The annual Fortune 500 list, which ranks America's largest corporations by revenue and profit, was released Thursday.

Retail giant Wal-Mart topped the list with $421,849MM in revenues, and $16,389MM in profits.

Four companies in the food services industry made the list, including:

· McDonald's, No. 111 – $24,074.6MM in revenues (up 5.8 percent from 2009) and $4,946.3MM in profits (up 8.7 percent from '09);

· Yum! Brands, parent company of Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell, No. 214 – $11,343MM in revenues (up 4.7 percent from '09) and $1,158MM in profits (up 8.1 percent from '09);

· Starbucks, No. 229 – $10,707.4MM in revenues (up 9.5 percent from '09) and $945.6MM in profits (up 142 percent from '09)

· Darden Restaurants, parent company of Red Lobster, Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52, No. 332 – $7,113.1MM in revenues (down 1.4 percent from '09) and $404.5MM in profits (up 8.7 percent from '09).

McDonald's dropped to No. 111 this year from No. 108 in 2010, No. 107 in 2009 and No. 106 in 2008.

Yum! Brands and Starbucks have climbed steadily since 2008, when they were No. 253 and No. 277, respectively.

In the food production industry, Archer Daniels Midland ranked No. 39; Tyson Foods came in at No. 93; Smithfield Foods was No. 216; and Seaboard ended up at No. 500.

The Food Consumer Products industry was heavily represented on the list, including:

  • Kraft Foods, No. 49
  • General Mills, No. 166
  • Sara Lee, No. 191
  • Kellogg, No. 199
  • ConAgra Foods, No. 200
  • Land O'Lakes, No. 218
  • H.J. Heinz, No. 232
  • Campbell Soup, No. 312
  • Hormel Foods, No. 325
  • Dole Food, No. 341
  • Hershey, No. 402
  • J.M. Smucker, No. 482
