Mountain Mike's franchisee purchases fleet of EVs

California-based Mountain Mike's Pizza has purchased a fleet of 20 COLO Cargo electric vehicles from ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp., according to a press release.

Multi-unit franchisee Phillip Dade, owner of Pelican Food Concepts, plans to open 65 locations in Arizona and Utah over the next 12 months. He's hoping the EVs will help lower delivery costs.

"We are truly excited to be one of the first customers to order over 20 SOLO Cargo units. It just makes sense for our business needs and our food-delivery model," Dade said in the release. "Before the SOLO, there were very few options for restaurants to become profitable in the delivery space, but the SOLO Cargo is changing all of that. This EV will fit our sustainability goals and ensure end-customer satisfaction, all while maximizing our profits and bottom line."

The EVs have space for up to 15 pizza boxes and operate at a cost of about 30 cents per mile.
