Next Step Living, provider of home energy solutions in the Northeast, today announced it is entering the commercial energy-efficiency market by launching the Eco Thermal Filter System designed to help restaurants save on gas bills. Using full-service restaurants as an example, the Eco Thermal Filter could help these establishments save around $6,000 a year based on an average of 2,500 gallons of hot water used on a daily basis, the company said.

"Adding the EcoThermal Filter System to Next Step Living's existing portfolio of energy-saving products allows us to help restaurants substantially reduce their carbon footprint while saving money," said Geoff Chapin, founder and CEO of Next Step Living, in a statement. "As we continue to make our mark on the residential energy efficiency space, we're excited to expand our mission to the commercial market with the introduction of the EcoThermal Filter System."

The Green Restaurant Association endorsed the new filter, system and its use allows restaurants to earn 90 percent of energy points needed for GRA certification. The system improves efficiency by capturing heat from the cook line, which is then used to preheat water for daily prep such as dish washing or cooking. The captured heat moves through grease filters and over embedded heat exchangers to preheat water, the company said.

"Installing an EcoThermal Filter System is a big step towards helping commercial kitchens save energy, while making use of what’s already in kitchens: the cook line," said Michael Oshman, CEO and founder of the Green Restaurant Association, in a statement.
