Longtime New England pizza chain, Papa Gino's, has permanently closed a substantial number of locations, according to the Boston Globeand phone recordings for several closed locations. The Globe reported that although the chain had approximately 150 stores at one point, it now lists only 97 on its website.
Employees told the newspaper they failed to receive any notice of the closings, rather discovering they were out of jobs through media reports about the shuttered stores. A recorded message at the chain's Quincy, Massachusetts store tells callers the "restaurant is now permanently closed."
The chain became Papa Gino's in 1968 after its founding seven years earlier under another name. At one time it had stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
