Newman's Own gets into pizza biz

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Newman's Own, the company founded by the late actor Paul Newman and famous for its salad dressings, has introduced Newman's Own Thin and Crispy frozen pizza.
The pizzas, which are trans fat-free and contain no artificial ingredients, are available in four varieties: Supreme; Four Cheese; Roasted Garlic and Chicken; Uncured Pepperoni. The product is in stores this month in five test market areas in New England as well as in Albany, N.Y., Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Charlotte, N.C.
The company plans to expand to other markets in 2009 and roll out nationally by 2010.
Newman's Own Thin and Crispy pizzas retail for a suggested price of $6.49 to $6.99. The company donates all after-tax net profits and related royalties for educational and charitable purposes.
