Pagliacci Pizza raises voter awareness

September 16, 2008

SEATTLE -- Pagliacci Pizza hopes to increase voter turnout in the unpcoming presidential election one pizza box at a time, the company said. From now until election day, all 21 Seattle-area Pagliacci Pizza locations will use red and blue pizza boxes which feature voting facts and the history of voting in the United States.

Among the voting facts listed on the boxes:
  • The reason we vote in November is because, historically, that's when the farmers weren't busy.
  • The United States ranks in the bottom 20 percent of the world in voter participation.
  • Australian law mandates voting. Those who flout the law face a fine or jail.
  • Though Washington State ranked among the highest in voter turnout for the 2004 presidential election, the average voter turnout over the past 30 years has been only 52.5 percent.
"Voting is an immense privilege that should never be taken for granted," said Pagliacci owner Matt Galvin. "The box is a fun, gentle reminder that every vote makes a difference."
