Papa John's International Inc.'s preliminary estimated comp sales grew slightly more than 24% in North America, year over year period, while internationally, the system's comp sales are estimated to have grown just over 23%, according to a news release.
"Papa John's sales, driven by product innovation, remained strong in August," President and CEO Rob Lynch said in the release. "As we have added new customers throughout 2020, our customer satisfaction and brand affinity scores also continue rising. Our international business gained further momentum in August, too, and continues to improve as more countries across the globe open back up for business."
Preliminary estimated comp sales for North American franchised restaurants were up 26%, as well.
The brand said that of its approximately 2,100 international franchised stores, the number temporarily closed has declined to approximately 150, primarily in Latin America and Europe, in accordance with government policies.
In North America, nearly all traditional restaurants remain open and fully operational. A number of non-traditional restaurants located in universities and stadiums are temporarily closed, the company said. It does not view those non-traditional locations as "material" to revenues and operating results, however.
