Papa John's opens first restaurants in Spain, France

May 31, 2016

Papa John's entered two major European markets in May, beginning with the opening of its first Spanish location in the capital city of Madrid on May 9. The Serrano-area store is the first of more than 100 locations planned for the city, according to representatives of the chain. In late May, Papa John's opened its first French location in the northern part of that country on May 24.

Drake QSR, the 2015 Papa John's Franchisee of the Year, owns the Serrano location in addition to more than 45 units in Chile.

"We’re excited to continue the momentum of our launch event and introduce Papa John’s legacy of quality to our fellow Spaniards," said Antonio Rostagno, managing director of PJ Spain. "Not only are we bringing better pizza to Spain, we are also bringing better career opportunities for young people."

The entry into Spain and France continues Papa John’s expansion in Europe. Papa John’s International has more than 300 restaurants in the United Kingdom and recently opened its first restaurant in northern  France on  May 24. In July, the chain will open in the Netherlands.

Papa John’s International is currently looking for potential franchisees in other parts of France, as well as Poland, the Czech Republic and Belgium.
