Papa John's UK promises Marmite in every bite with stuffed crust LTO

March 19, 2019

Papa John's in the U.K. is readying to launch a pizza with a crust stuffed with a substance that could be a metaphor for our times: marmite. The ultra-salty brown food paste is known for being either dearly loved or wickedly despised and has long been a staple of U.K.-based cultures. Now the brand that has been so controversial — at least here in the U.S. — is stuffing this controversial stuff in its pizza crusts.

According to the British newspaper, the Mirror, this is the second time this year the brand has reached out to include Marmite in its pies. Beginning on March 25, the yeasty LTO will be available at all the chain's U.K. locations. Earlier this year, the Mirror reports that Papa John's offered Marmite Scrolls that combined cheese, marmite and dough. The pizzas are the brand's attempt at the "rest of the story."

"Following the huge success of our Marmite Scrolls earlier this year, we're extremely excited to spread the partnership beyond our side menu and into the crusts of our popular pizzas," Papa John's U.K. Managing Director Liz Williams, told the Mirror. "Ingredient innovation is at the core of our menu and we're sure that the addition of Marmite to our cheesy crusts will be a huge hit."
