Patent-infringement lawsuit names major pizza chains

August 15, 2011

Ameranth Inc. is claiming several major pizza chains have infringed on its patents when launching functions, including online/mobile ordering, reservations and ticketing that require Ameranth's patents for wireless/web synchronization.

The company filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pizza Hut Inc., Pizza Hut of America Inc., Domino's Pizza Inc., Domino's Pizza LLC, Papa John's USA Inc., OpenTable Inc., GrubHub Inc., Netwaiter LLC and LaughStub LLC, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego.

The suit says that the defendants widely deploy and depend upon technology and systems which incorporate Ameranth's inventions protected by one or more claims of Ameranth's patents (U.S. Pat. Nos. 6,384,850 and 6,871,325).

"Ameranth is determined to enforce its valuable patent portfolio against infringers and the filing of this new patent lawsuit is a major step in that direction and one that we are confident will succeed," said Vern Yates, Ameranth's CEO.

Papa John's, Pizza Hut and Domino's could not be reached for comment at press time.
