In December, Pizza Hut announced that it was joining the Super Bowl commercial juggernaut for the first time ever. The chain has since gotten cold feet about the $3 million spot.
According to Broadcasting Cable, Pizza Hut has opted out of the rotation and is selling its spot back to the Fox network. The abandoned ad space is expected to get picked up quickly.
In lieu of participating in the prime advertising bill Feb. 6, Pizza Hut will put its efforts toward the pre-game advertising.
This is a familiar role for Pizza Hut, which has been the presenting sponsor on the NFL Network’s “GameDay Morning” show in the past, and has run ads leading up to the game featuring celebrities such as Jessica Simpson and Donald Trump.
