PORTLAND, Ore. -- Wieden & Kennedy, which was hired as Pizza Hut's second ad agency in March but flopped with its first assignment, has been dropped.
Pizza Hut spokeswoman Patty Sullivan told Advertising Age that Wieden & Kennedy's work was "done," just four months after the company was signed. She said it was uncertain if the agency would be used again.
Wieden & Kennedy's first ad for Pizza Hut, a spot promoting its Insider specialty pizza entitled "Where'd the cheese go?", was pulled just one week after its debut in mid-May (See story: Pizza Hut Insider ad becomes outsider after one week). The company turned to its primary agency, BBDO Worldwide, to replace the ad.
Pizza Hut spends about $150 million annually on advertising, according to Advertising Age, and has retained BBDO's services for 15 years. Company officials did not detail future plans.
