Just two weeks after Papa John's began testing beer delivery in a small Indiana city, Pizza Hut is launching what a news release called its "category first" beer delivery pilot program in nearly 100 Arizona and California restaurants.
Participating restaurants are in Phoenix, Tucson, Glendale, Prescott and Winslow, Arizona, and Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Riverside, Sacramento, Santa Barbara and Santa Clara, California. The release said there are other cities as well in the two states and that the service will launch soon in more locations, including Anaheim, Fresno, Huntington Beach and Redding this month.
In Arizona, the beer deliveries are free, as well, thanks to a partnership with MillerCoors. In that state, the free service is available for customers who include a six-pack of Coors Light, Blue Moon, or Miller High Life in any Pizza Hut order online.
Qualifying orders must meet delivery minimum requirements and be placed through PizzaHut.com or the Pizza Hut Mobile App. The beer arrives in custom coolers, designed to deliver the beverages cold.
"Pizza Hut has and always will be focused on serving customers a great pizza experience. And nothing complements an oven-hot pizza like an ice-cold beer," Pizza Hut CMO Zipporah Allen, said in the release. "In addition to our extensive delivery network, many Pizza Hut restaurants are already licensed to serve and distribute beer, without third-party services, additional fees, or extended wait times. Expanding the pilot program is a natural way for Pizza Hut to get our customers the perfect pizza and beer combo they're craving, delivered right to their doors."
Arizona Pizza Hut franchisee Mark Peterson said the addition of beer to delivery services has given his store a competitive edge.
"Offering beer delivery has enabled us to provide a service to our customers that others cannot, which has proven to be successful during the first few months of the pilot," Peterson, owner of HOT Pizza, said in the release. "As a Pizza Hut franchisee I'm always looking for ways to innovate my business, and beer delivery is a great way for us to deliver an even better experience for our customers."
