CLARKSTOWN, N.Y.—New York Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio announced that the owner of Village Pizza & Burger has been arrested and charged with insurance fraud, falsifying business records and submitting fraudulent workers' compensation documents.
According to The Insurance Journal, pizzeria owner Yuri Milshtein was arrested March 5 and his business was closed. Milshtein allegedly submitted false workers' comp documents stating that he had no employees.
A joint investigation, led by the Department's Insurance Fraud Bureau, the Clarkstown Police Department and the New York State Workers' Compensation Board revealed, however, that Milshtein employed two workers and that "the fraudulent documents were an attempt to avoid paying into the workers' compensation system."
The bulletin also indicated he submitted fraudulent insurance documents and falsified business records, and now faces charges on those accounts.
