QSR brand ad spend jumps in 2021

QSR brands are spending an estimated $1.8 billion on national television advertisements, an 18% increase over 2020, according to a iSpot.tv report.

The figure amounts to 357 billion TV ad impressions, a 4% increase over 2020.

The top QSR brands by spending through Q3 include:

  • Domino's Pizza with $257.9 million.
  • Subway with $177.9 million.
  • Taco Bell with $154.6 million.
  • McDonald's with $150.6 million.
  • Wendy's with $138.3 million.

Domino's TV ad impressions are up 18% YoY through Q3. The brand has nearly double the impressions of the next most-seen QSR brand (McDonald's).

Subway's YoY impressions jumped by nearly a third, partly due to the Olympics and college basketball (combined for 4% of 2021 impressions).

With live sports on-schedule in 2021, ESPN served up more QSR impressions YoY with 4.1% this year versus 3.49% in 2020.

Pizza Hut's Detroit Style commercial ranked tops in impressions with 1.62 billion, followed by Wendy's BOGO $1 Effect spot at 1.32 billion.
