A report filed with the Spartanburg Public Safety Department stated that at about 11 p.m. July 29, Papa John's driver Arif Aziz Khan, 28, knocked on the door of a Jasmine Street residence. An assailant then came from behind a house, struck him with a baseball bat, demanded Khan's cash and left.

At 10:30 p.m. the next evening, 32-year-old William Reeves, who delivers for Pizza Hut, attempted a delivery at a Jasmine Street home where no one answered. An assailant armed with a crowbar struck him on the head and back and demanded money, according to a police report. Reeves then threw his pizza boxes at the attacker and ran to his vehicle before being taken to Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
