Six guilty of firebombing pizzeria

October 13, 2002

COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- Six men were found guilty on Oct. 14 of firebombing the Mørkov Pizzeria in Copenhagen last year.

According to the Copenhagen Post, two of the men, Ali Bascoban and Nuri Yalcib, own a rival pizzeria in nearby Holbæk. Both were also convicted of incitement for offering DKK 10,000 (U.S. $1,300) to the other four to carry out the attack.

At the time of the firebombing, Mørkov's two owners were sleeping on the second floor above the premises. The six men, however, were charged with arson only, and not attempted murder. The judge in the case believed the men had no knowledge anyone was in the building when they threw the Molotov cocktails through the restaurant's window.
