Spain's Telepizza opens 15 locations in Russia

October 24, 2017

Telepizza and master franchisee WWP have converted 15 pizza stores of another brand in St. Petersburg, Russia, elevating the chain's profile in that city, a news release said. WWP is among the largest QSR operators in Russia and hopes to open 16 more stores there within the next three years.

Telepizza said in its release that it is the largest non-U.S. pizza delivery company in the world. The recent openings are designed to strengthen the brand's international strategy, which focuses on expanding the chain within and outside of current markets through either acquisitions of local companies, master franchise agreements and organic growth.

"We look forward to continuing our relationship with WWP, who have helped us achieve our ambitious global growth plans through their extensive local knowledge and expertise in this key market," Telepizza International President Giorgio Minardi, said in the release. "This new opening shows our ability to adapt and respond accordingly to local consumers in various markets, which is key to our success."

The release said that Telepizza considers Russia a strategic market due to "remarkable" QSR growth there — including growth of pizza brands. The Madrid-based company now has stores in more than 20 countries, for a total of 469 owned locations and 971 franchised stores as of the end of June.
