Stick shift foils pizza thieves

January 7, 2003

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Two men who robbed a pizza delivery driver on Jan. 1 found themselves unable to steal his car, too, when they discovered it employed a manual transmission.

According to Reuters, police said the men, ages 17 and 18, took the driver's four pizzas, all his cash and jumped inside his car. When they discovered the clutch and stick shift, they fled on foot with the pizzas.

The driver called police, who then spotted one of the suspects entering the home where the pizzas were to be delivered.

Both were arrested and charged with robbery and theft under $3,000.
