November 6, 2008
SAN RAMON, Calif.-- Straw Hat Restaurants, operator of Straw Hat Pizza, plans to nearly double in size by the end of 2009, with roughly 42 new eateries in the pipeline. The 58-store chain, which has historically been located in California, is expanding to Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Texas and beyond, said Jonathan C. Fornaci, president of Straw Hat Restaurants.
The company is embarking on its national expansion with its traditional pizza eateries along with two new concept restaurants, Straw Hat Express and Straw Hat Grill.
Once the company is up to 100 franchise units, the chain plans to file for an IPO, Fornaci said.
The company plans to open a location in Arkansas by July 2009, with plans to open at least five more stores in that state over the next five years. The franchisees are Brian Butler and Dexter Heard.
